They are extremely fun to watch and carry most of the film with great humor

We are invited to witness and be drawn backstage as we enter the chaos of this Hollywood-magical version of the beginning of the legendary TV show. Longtime SNL fans will be happy to note the many, many easter egg references to SNL' The most famous and popular sketches, most of which would not have been present and ready before this first performance. The pace and action are frenetic as disaster after disaster unfolds while hundreds of tiny devices try to create something like SNL. get together in some form that will work and produce a viable show by the time the curtain goes up. The character actors chosen to emulate the first cast are spot on and do a great job, truly embodying what are undoubtedly huge shoes to fill.

This movie is a fun nostalgic fantasy tribute

But I’m afraid Lorne Michaels was poorly cast or poorly written because as our main focus of this whirlwind of a frustratingly inept administration he’s largely turned into an amateurish and annoying little twit, we keep waiting and waiting to see the opportunity and he never really does . Barely able to share his vision of the show in labored human words, he wanders from fire to fire, never actually putting anything out and promptly forgetting about them as he toddles off to the next one. When the first show ends, it’s largely because everyone else went on without him and it worked in spite of him. I also just irrationally hate his face and that little look he gets when things go wrong; it’s like a stunned, upset toddler sensing something wrong. A visit from the ghost of SNL’s past.

However, it is definitely NOT a biographical recounting of what actually happened, and should not be perceived as such

This is mostly a fan film and other viewers will see it as a hit or parade and most likely find themselves googling said skits. after that.
